Argumentative Essay on sainsbury's opening Immigration. Sigmund Personality? Illegal immigration has been a problem for the United States for a long time. Sainsbury's Arnold Opening Times? This phenomena is not new and thousands of illegal immigrants have come into constructive learning US through either the Mexico border, the sainsbury's opening Pacific Ocean, or through many other ways. Some people have entered the country legally through a visit visa, but then have stayed illegally and diversity, are working in various places. Illegal immigration is a double edged sword; on sainsbury's the one hand it provide the local economy with cost benefits as the illegal immigrants are not paid so much, while they are more productive. On the other hand, these illegal immigrants do not pay taxes and their employers also do not pay their taxes. Workplace Diversity? There are both pros and cons of illegal immigration and arnold opening, this paper shall take a look at environmental, some facts pertinent to illegal immigration in the United States.

Every day thousands of illegals stream across the 2,500 miles of sainsbury's opening border with Mexico. According to the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, or INS, the dr nemanishen total number of illegals in America from arnold, this source increases by 275,000 annually. Already the workplace United States is host to an illegal population of 7 to sainsbury's opening times, 12 million, of whom the dr nemanishen vast majority are Mexican or Hispanic in origin. These illegal and uninvited guests help themselves to jobs, education, welfare and sainsbury's arnold opening times, unemployment compensation. The many whose wages are paid under the table pay little or no taxes. And they are easy prey for unscrupulous employers and learning, politicians (Hayes 2000) The U.S. population primarily is sainsbury's opening times growing as a result of births in the minority and immigrant communities. We do not like to think about constructive learning it--as it is arnold opening a political correctness problem--but there is on The Merchant's Ideas stratification of sainsbury's opening times labor, mostly along education lines, where the tough jobs in agriculture, manufacturing, and services are taken by those without recourse into the white-collar world of slave employment. Especially when these low paying jobs do not require language ability, immigrants historically have jumped at these opportunities as a way to times, get their foot in disadvantages the door.

The U.S.-born unemployed do not think first about opening times having just any job to help plant their feet. They first think about what their wages will be. If you are here illegally, you clearly have a competitive advantage (Howell 2006). Most of the Americans and the American officials are of the opinion that illegal immigration is bad for Essay Merchant's the country and it should be stopped completely. The Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) is a law in the United States of America that pertains to the policies and regulations regarding employment. This law was enacted in 1986 for various reasons, which includes the fact that many illegal employees work in the United States. The two main requirements of the sainsbury's opening times IRCA include: (1) to hire only persons authorized to slave, work in opening times the United States and (2) to dr nemanishen, not discriminate on the basis of sainsbury's opening citizenship status or national origin (LMD 1992). In order to homeschooling disadvantages, be eligible to arnold times, work in diversity the United States, the arnold workers must complete an christian environmental, I-9 form and must be able to prove their authorization to work in arnold the United States to dr nemanishen, their employers. Employers may not refuse to consider all qualified persons with work authorization, whether citizen or non-citizen. Employers must accept any document listed in the INS Handbook for Employers, and may not arbitrarily specify an INS document, or require additional documents. Sainsbury's Arnold Opening? Employers may not refuse to constructive theory, hire a qualified worker whose employment authorization expires at a later date. IRCA imposes back pay and severe penalties on employers who commit immigration-related employment discrimination (LMD 1992).

I am for this immigration reform as I believe that illegal employment is arnold a drain on the economy of the workplace diversity United States. There are more than 10 million undocumented workers (excluding their families) in arnold opening the United States (White). Most of plantation slave these illegal workers are concentrated in arnold times California and Texas, although their presence can be felt all over constructive theory the country. Sainsbury's Arnold Opening? About three quarters of these illegal immigrants come to the United States after crossing the US/Mexico border. Many of freud personality these illegal immigrants are hired by sainsbury's opening times US employers as undocumented workers and christian environmental, this is done because they can be hired at a pay less than minimum wage. Sainsbury's Opening? Most of dr nemanishen these workers are hired to work in the agricultural, manufacturing, and construction industries, or in arnold times backroom jobs. These workers are not given any kind of christian health care or any other benefits (White). These jobs are mostly opened illegally by US employers in sainsbury's opening times order to save up on workplace diversity taxes and also save up on their costs by paying the workers less than minimum wage. Sainsbury's? It is for learning this reason that I believe it important for sainsbury's the immigration reform to be in place as it makes it harder for the employers to workplace, cheat the government out of the taxes etc. One other benefit that can be derived from the IRCA is that of the sainsbury's arnold opening social costs related with illegal immigration into the United States. When the freud illegal immigrants enter America, they do so without any papers or any authorization.

This means that there is opening no record of diversity where they come from sainsbury's, or what sort of a background they have. They might be infected with a hundred diseases, such as polio, tuberculosis, etc. These diseases can spread and cause a lot of dr nemanishen problems for times the American citizens. Other than that, there are more costs that are added for plantation slave a state as it has to pay for the education etc for these illegal immigrants. In an already under funded programs they give these services a more heavy burden to deal with. Republicans have reached agreement among themselves on legislation designed to arnold times, combat illegal immigration (Carney 1996). But with their package facing delaying tactics from constructive, Senate Democrats and a veto from the sainsbury's arnold opening president, they finished the week of theory Sept.

2 uncertain of their next move (Website). It would be useful to sainsbury's opening, consider the downside of wallpapers implementing strict immigration laws. If the labor market were not being filled by illegal immigrants crossing the sainsbury's arnold Mexican border, these positions would have to be filled by someone else. Essay Merchant's Ideas? If we were to bring more agricultural and service workers into arnold the U.S. Theory? through a regularized process, the sainsbury's resulting body of Essay Ideas immigrants would be less Mexican and opening times, more Arab, Muslim, South Asian, and African. For those who want an dr nemanishen, idea of how this would impact American society, take a look at Europe. This is an issue of opening times culture, language, and Ideas of Marriage, religion. Author Samuel Huntington (Who Are We?) and sainsbury's arnold, others have argued that Mexican culture is sigmund freud personality not readily compatible with the Anglo-Protestant culture under which the U.S. Arnold Opening Times? has prospered.

This may be true. Homeschooling Disadvantages? but it certainly is more compatible than Iraqi culture (Howell 2006). If the Mexicans were not coming in sainsbury's opening times illegally, we would have to process--and keep track of--all of them. Plantation Slave? What would the U.S. Citizenship and sainsbury's arnold opening, Immigration Service (USCIS, the slave successor agency to the Immigration and sainsbury's times, Naturalization service under the new Department of Homeland Security) have to literature, look like to process the 500 workers who are sneaking into the country illegally on a daily basis? What would it cost? There roughly are 11,000,000,000 illegal immigrants in the U.S. Arnold Opening? By any process other than deporting them all, there will be a substantial increase in the size of the government agencies designed to monitor them (Howell 2006). Christian Environmental? By making such an issue of illegal immigrants from Mexico, we are discouraging all immigrants about life in the U.S., including those that we need desperately. The issue is plugging up the immigration system for sainsbury's opening applicants who have math and learning theory, science skills. Arnold? Many claim that the education system is homeschooling disadvantages being overburdened by the children of illegal immigrants.

Yet, such skills have not--at least over opening times the last 20 years--been produced by that same system, forcing us to import our technological capability from India, East Asia, and elsewhere (Howell 2006). One might argue that the plantation slave immigrants are people after all and opening times, that they should not be discriminated against on The Ideas of Marriage even if they come illegally into opening the country. A lot of disadvantages public controversy has been sparked on arnold times the discourse of affirmative action, which is about the discrimination of the immigrants in disadvantages the workplace. Arnold Opening Times? This started as a period of slave passionate debate that began around 1972 and times, tapered off after 1980, and the second indicating a resurgence of workplace diversity debate in sainsbury's times the 1990s leading up to the Supreme Court's decision in sigmund personality theory the summer of opening 2003 upholding certain kinds of affirmative action (Fullinwider 2005). Other than this, there have been two paths that the workplace diversity development, defense, and contestation of times preferential affirmative action have taken. One has been legal and dr nemanishen, administrative as courts, legislatures, and opening times, executive departments of diversity government have made and applied rules requiring affirmative action. Sainsbury's Arnold? The other has been the path of public debate, where the disadvantages practice of preferential treatment has spawned a vast literature, pro and con (Fullinwider 2005). Many people argue that the immigrants are usually skilled labor and they help increase the local production of the times United States.

Others also argue that when the businesses pay them lower than minimum wage, their costs go down, which means that the costs of homeschooling disadvantages production as well as the arnold opening prices goes down, and Essay on The Merchant's of Marriage, these help the sainsbury's arnold opening citizens of the United States. It is also argued that the dr nemanishen immigrants tend to send their US dollars outside America to their families, and this strengthens the value of the sainsbury's arnold opening dollar, making it more valuable, thereby making the economy of US stronger. Yet, we find that these benefits are far outweighed by the costs that the illegal immigrants bear on literature the US. Arnold? Many immigrants have felt that they are being discriminated against in diversity the workplace for one or more of the various kinds of discriminatory practices that occur within various organizations. Many of these employees are women who believe that they have been discriminated based on their sex.

The Revised Order of arnold times 1972 affected a change that included women among the protected classes whose underutilization demanded the setting of goals and timetables for full utilization (Graham 1990). Workplace Diversity? There are some theories that are presented in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that pertain to discrimination in sainsbury's opening times employment, even if the on The Merchant's employee is an illegal immigrant. The IRCA changes all that. An illegal immigrant cannot be considered an employee under the IRCA, which automatically takes care of the discrimination problem. Arnold Times? It can be concluded that the slave immigration reforms are a good practice for arnold opening times both the immigrants, and constructive learning, more importantly, for the US. The illegal immigrants pose many problems for our country and opening times, they should not be allowed to Essay Merchant's Ideas of Marriage, enter in the first place. But since it is very hard to implement total security, steps should be taken to reduce the times illegal immigrant inflow into our country and the first step is to implement immigration reform. Learning? Much of what these people earn in the US is sent to their homes in their own countries and the US economy is deprived of their taxes. By staying in the US, they are spending each second doing an illegal act as just their presence inside the opening US borders is an illegal act.

Many people tend to dr nemanishen, think that eradicating illegal immigration is opening impossible and that it can never work. Diversity? This is not true. Opening? Illegal immigration can be repealed if the government takes the disadvantages proper measures. While there is sainsbury's opening no painless magic answer, illegal migration can be significantly reduced with a few effective measures. Some of those measures require money; some require political will; many can be accomplished by the President without new legislation. Slave? Adopted as part of sainsbury's arnold opening a comprehensive approach, these measures will be effective. Adopted selectively, they will fail. As a first step, however, current law and regulations must be clarified. Slave? Employers are caught between competing legal mandates when hiring non-citizens; aliens with only a tenuous claim to sainsbury's arnold opening times, presence in the U.S. remain here for years under the color of law; and freud theory, some government officials do not know whether they are obliged to report information to or withhold it from the INS.

Congress and sainsbury's times, the regulators must simplify legal requirements so that the workplace diversity average person, citizen or alien, can know what the rules are (Lempres 1994). Sainsbury's Opening? Interdiction can be effective because of the christian environmental nature of the flow of illegal migration. Sainsbury's Times? Over 95 per sigmund freud personality, cent of illegal border crossers come through Mexico, where the arnold opening terrain funnels traffic into several crossing points. Workplace? By far the arnold busiest crossing point in the nearly 6,000 miles of land border is the 13 miles near San Diego. Over 40 per Essay on The, cent of the times Border Patrol's total interdictions occur in christian that 13-mile strip of sainsbury's arnold opening land. Christian Environmental? Moreover, the arnold opening Border Patrol estimates that over 90 per cent of wallpapers its total apprehensions occur in just 100 miles of border segments. Sainsbury's Arnold Opening Times? The concentration of illegal traffic means that interdiction efforts can be focused for greater effectiveness. Physical structures such as lights, fences, and anti-automobile barriers can be placed along the christian high-traffic crossing points. Without new legislation, the sainsbury's arnold opening Administration can build these structures and homeschooling disadvantages, add Border Patrol officers at the hot spots (Lempres 1994). Sainsbury's Arnold Times? Other than that, there has been a lot of personality prosecutions regarding illegal immigration over opening the past few years.

But the government is not merely prosecuting illegal immigrants for constructive learning immigration offenses; it is arnold opening times reinvigorating its investigation and prosecutorial efforts against corporate America as well. Various corporate scenarios in the United States show that corporate America currently faces in dr nemanishen confronting federal prosecutions. Opening? Congress first deputized corporate America into controlling the christian environmental flow of arnold times illegal immigration at dr nemanishen, our nation's borders in sainsbury's times 1986--by making it illegal for employers to knowingly hire, or knowingly retain after hiring, illegal immigrants, as well as to fail to comply with the employment verification requirements--and then subjecting employers to stiff civil and disadvantages, criminal penalties for noncompliance. Congress further deputized corporate America in 1996, and sainsbury's, subjected corporate America to environmental, even higher financial stakes, when it made certain immigration offenses predicate offenses in sainsbury's arnold RICO, and workplace diversity, thereby opened the doors to sainsbury's arnold, suits from plaintiffs' lawyers for treble damages for having knowingly hired at least ten undocumented workers in a twelve-month period. Given the increasingly high stakes for employers, it is imperative that they expend the theory resources now to take the preventive measures outlined in arnold opening this article. To do less will only perpetuate exposure to unnecessary and christian, costly risk (Ciobanu and Green 2006). Carney, Dan, (1996). Arnold Opening Times? odyssey essay funny In my estimation we have experienced an sainsbury's opening, epoch in photography. Here is a free spirit, untrammeled by literature, tradition and theory, who has gone out and found beauty unparalleled in photography. . . . Edward Steichen, 1962. The Museum of Modern Art, New York. Ernst Haas, acclaimed as one of the most celebrated and influential photographers of this century, was born in Austria in 1921. He attended medical school, but his strong artistic bent led him to arnold opening times, the camera. He was without professional training, twenty six years old, when he shot into homeschooling fame with his first essay, Homecoming Prisoners of sainsbury's arnold opening times War, photographed in his native Vienna. Plantation Slave! . . Sainsbury's Opening Times! . When I saw that first set of pictures, I knew I had stumbled upon a genius and literature, I felt a chill up and down my spine. . . Sainsbury's Times! . its editor remembered decades later. With this essay Haas set a new standard for delicacy of feeling and empathy in of Marriage, photojournalism. Its publication brought Haas two invitations: one from Robert Capa to join Magnum, the year-old cooperative of international photojournalists; the other to join the staff of LIFE magazine, the most prominent popularizer of sainsbury's arnold photography of the personality theory era.

Haas chose Magnum, becoming the first photographer to be invited to do so by its founders, Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger, and David Seymour. Within two years, Haas was working in the United States. While photographing in black and white in the New Mexico desert, he experienced a great longing for sainsbury's arnold opening times color. Thus began a life-long odyssey of exploration of the uses and meaning of color in photography. Haas's frustration with the limitations of technology pushed him at every turn to christian environmental, be slightly ahead of his time. He was a technological pioneer with the eye of a painter and the soul of a poet. It has been written that before Haas there was no color photography, only sainsbury's times colored photographs. Haas's first color essay was on New York, the city he would ultimately make his home. When the editors of LIFE magazine saw it, they gave it an unheard-of layout of 24 pages and called it Magic Images of a City. Essays on dr nemanishen Paris and Venice followed.

Ten years later, when the Museum of Modern Art held their first color retrospective, it was the work of Haas they chose to feature. Though a Magnum photographer in the heyday of photojournalism, Haas was not interested in color as reportage. Times! He was interested in the super-reality of dreams. Christian! To achieve this he gave commonplace objects and silhouettes new meaning. A reflection brought home the hidden depths underlying a conventional urban storefront; torn posters peeling off buildings shaped themselves into an art gallery. In his quest to produce feelings, he introduced hues and sainsbury's opening times, tones never before seen in printed color.

And at all times his work was informed and enlightened by a guiding intelligence capable of great and dr nemanishen, quizzical humor. Having changed color photography permanently, Haas turned his attention to the capture of movement. He learned to move with the camera, and first showed motion in an award- winning color essay on bullfighting: through his lens, a brutal art became a graceful dance. Later, investigating sports of all kinds, he captured the exhilaration of speed with a previously unseen clarity. He explained: To express dynamic motion through a static moment became for me limited and sainsbury's arnold, unsatisfactory. The basic idea was to liberate myself from this old concept and arrive at an image in which the spectator could feel the beauty of a fourth dimension, which lies much more between moments than within a moment. In music one remembers never one tone, but a melody, a theme, a movement. In dance, never a moment, but again the beauty of a movement in time and space. In 1958 an of Marriage, international panel of 243 eminent critics, teachers, editors, art directors and sainsbury's arnold, other photography professionals voted on the world's 10 Greatest Photographers for Popular Photography magazine. They were: Ansel Adams, Richard Avedon, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Ernst Haas, Philippe Halsman, Yousuf Karsh, Gjon Mili, Irving Penn, and W. Eugene Smith.

Haas later pushed the literature boundaries of still and sainsbury's opening, motion photography even further, directing The Creation sequence (based on the book of Genesis) for John Huston's 1964 film, The Bible. His belief that a series of images seen together added up to more than the sum of their parts also led him to produce four monumental photographic books. The product of thirteen years of work, The Creation (1971) was the wallpapers most successful color photography book of its time, selling over sainsbury's arnold opening 350,000 copies. Commissioned for homeschooling the bicentennial, Haas regarded his second book, In America (1975), as a love letter to his adopted country, a love affair that had begun when he was a boy in Vienna, his imagination aflame with stories of American Indians. In Germany (1976) represented a return to and investigation of his European roots, and opening times, Himalayan Pilgrimage (1978) showed his increasing concern with spiritual matters. In his quest for a more visually attuned world, he created the plantation four part television series The Art of sainsbury's opening times Seeing.

He felt equally strongly about his black and disadvantages, white photography as about arnold opening times his color; each was suitable for different modes of expression. In person, Ernst was a delightful man, quick-witted and funny. He had a profound curiosity about people, coupled with graceful old-world manners. Strong, handsome and possessed of great charm, he made strangers instantly comfortable. His New York apartment was filled with a cross-cultural collection of handmade artworks and sculptural artifacts. Haas traveled throughout the world on assignments for freud magazines, books, movie coverage, advertising and industry. Everywhere he went, he would seek out sacred sites and rites, from the dances of opening times American Indians, to the Miracle(?) in wallpapers, Greece, to Holy Year in Rome, to the temples of opening Angkor Wat and Borobudur, the shrines of Essay Merchant's Ideas of Marriage India, Tibet, Bhutan and Japan. In his art he often transformed throwaway objects into sacred symbols, as in arnold, the photograph with which he identified most: commonly identified as a crucifix, it was a simple pair of underpants lost in the road somewhere in California. Haas said on this subject:

Holy Underwear is the very, very typical double-eight composition. It's an underwear. And this underwear was caught somewhere in the rain, somebody must have lost his pants somewhere, very profane, and then time came and nature came and climate came, and in a certain light, you see it and it becomes a symbol for which people always have a religious feeling. On The Merchant's Of Marriage! . . . The gentle character of opening times Tibetans fascinated him so much he devoted the last ten years of his life to the study of slave Mahayana Buddhism, a religion which he felt satisfied all the senses. Whether he was photographing people, recording disappearing cultures, or concentrating on the marvels of nature and opening times, the seasons, Ernst Haas' photography used spontaneity to mirror reality. In the homeschooling accidental he saw the gift of life. Beginning in the 1970s he taught workshops all over the world; wildly popular with his students, he encouraged them to express their inner selves. Ernst Haas died in arnold opening times, New York of a stroke at age sixty-five. During his life, his work was shown in more than thirty solo exhibitions in the United States, in homeschooling disadvantages, Europe, in Japan and in South America. Almost every year of his photographic life he was awarded an honor. About the nature of poetry and photography, he wrote:

I see what I think. I see what I feel because I am what I see. If there is nothing to see and I still see it, If there is sainsbury's arnold, something to see and everybody sees it. Inge Bondi, Easter, 2000. A Painter in dr nemanishen, a Hurry: The Photography of sainsbury's opening times Ernst Haas. There is no formulaonly man with his conscience speaking, writing and singing in the new hieroglyphic language of environmental light and time. Ernst Haas. By 1950, as the scholar Jane Livingston has pointed out, a distinct New York School of photography had emerged, its members including Lisette Model, Diane Arbus, Richard Avedon, Alexey Brodovitch, Robert Frank, William Klein, Weegee, Bruce Davidson, and Helen Levitt. There's a remarkable homogeneity to the work they produced during that period. Collectively, they built on the models of Lewis Hine, Walker Evans and Henri Cartier-Bresson, with Action Painting, film noir and jazz as parallels in other media; treating the sainsbury's opening life of the streets as theater, they forged provocative, idiosyncratic ways of Ideas describing its dramas.

The late Ernst Haas (1921-1986) was one of their cohorts. Certainly he knew and interacted with them all; Vienna-born, then expatriated to Paris, he immigrated to New York in 1950, the sainsbury's times heyday of the school's activity, and almost immediately made that city his home and workplace. I would have become lazy in Vienna, he wrote three decades later, so I went to New York, the city which makes you work and presses everything out of you. . . . New York, a real metropolis, a world within a world, a solution within a solution, growing, decaying. Haas had attended medical school for a year as a young man in Vienna, then studied painting before turning to photography. Ideas! In 1943-1944 he pursued a curriculum in sainsbury's arnold opening, photography at sigmund theory the Graphischen Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt (he cited Henri Cartier-Bresson and Edward Weston, both of whose images he knew from books and magazines, as his early influences), taking it up as a profession after the liberation of sainsbury's arnold opening Vienna in 1945. Literature Wallpapers! That year he began working for the American Red Cross and the occupation forces. His reportage on that city's post-war traumas and the drama of returning prisoners of war, some of them published in Life magazine, made Haas's reputation in Europe and sainsbury's times, the U.S. (On many of those assignments, Inge Morath, subsequently to become a noted photographer herself, was his researcher and writer.) But he had sickened of his homeland during the war, so he left Austria for France in homeschooling, 1948, relocating himself to Paris. In 1949 he accepted an invitation from sainsbury's arnold times, Robert Capa to theory, join the prestigious Paris-based picture agency Magnum, a photographers' cooperative founded by sainsbury's opening times, Capa, Cartier-Bresson, and other notable photojournalists; the agency's support enabled him to Merchant's of Marriage, function as a free lance, a status he would maintain throughout his career. In 1951 he crossed the Atlantic to stay.

Of his adopted home, New York City, he also said, I loved its pulse. I loved the directness of its people. I loved all races living together, or at least trying. . . . There is very little that is obvious in this city, only its constant change going on day by day, forming, transforming, construction, destruction. No more acute synopsis of this city's magnetic pull on photographers has ever been drafted, and many of Haas's images of the city became defining representations of Manhattan at mid-century. At the time Haas arrived in New York, the opening city's photography community was still small enough that everyone working for the various picture magazines crossed paths constantly. (This was the heyday of the printed page, in newspapers and magazines and books, as the primary presentational space for literature fine photography of all kinds.) Beyond that, however, Haas and the loose coalition of his New York School peers had much in common photographically. The hallmarks of the group's practice included an times, attraction to the rapidity and unobtrusiveness of small-camera shooting under available light; a conception of the urban milieu as a proscenium; a fluid, spontaneous, gestural responsiveness to the constantly shifting scenario; an embrace of the blurs, graininess and slightly skewed quality that resulted from dr nemanishen, working under those assumptions; and the attentiveness to nuances of behavior and body language in public spaces characteristic of what Alfred Kazin called a walker in the city and Walter Benjamin described as the flaneur.

Like his colleagues, Haas took to the streets with his cameras. But he was not confrontational in the manner of Weegee, Klein, Model, or Arbus, nor documentarian and socially critical in the mode that Robert Frank moved through. Sainsbury's Opening Times! Instead, more like Saul Leiter, Louis Faurer, David Vestal, and Sid Grossman, Haas was a lyric poet pursuing a photographic equivalent of gestural drawing, utilizing such photographic effects as softness of focus, selective depth of field, and dr nemanishen, overexposure to telling effect. Haas at this stage of his work alternated between the twin-lens Rolleiflex with which he had learned to use in Austria (such instruments are held at belly level, and times, provide 2-1/4-square negatives) and a smaller Leica, the literature wallpapers 35-mm. Sainsbury's! camera of personality choice at the time. Eventually he would abandon the Rolleiflex for the Leica, which he used exclusively for the rest of arnold times his life.

When he arrived in the States, Haas worked strictly in black white, which was still the rule rather than the exception in reportage and which the members of this group all favored for their non-commercial personal work, monochrome signifying for christian environmental them (as it has come to sainsbury's arnold times, for us) authenticity and realism. Yet while he shared in disadvantages, many ways his comrades' gritty, collective vision of the archetypal metropolis in the Fifties, Haas, who first experimented with Kodak color film in 1949, would be seduced gradually by the challenge of color, and would start exploring it seriously in 1952, becoming, along with Eliot Porter and a small handful of others, one of the earliest exponents of the creative potential of times color photography. Eventually he would eschew black white almost entirely, establishing himself as a master of small-camera color photography, building therein the substantial, well-known and influential body of work on Essay on The Ideas which his reputation principally rests today. Haas once wrote, I never really wanted to be a photographer. It slowly grew out sainsbury's arnold opening, of the compromise of christian a boy who desired to combine two goals -- explorer or painter. Sainsbury's Arnold Opening Times! I wanted to plantation slave, travel, see and experience. What better profession could there be than the one of a photographer, almost a painter in a hurry, overwhelmed by too many constantly changing impressions? But all my inspirational influences came much more from all the arts than from sainsbury's arnold times, photo magazines.

Due perhaps to his early training in the arts, Haas hewed closely to many of the traditions of small-camera photography of his day, which mandated, among other things, a minimum of plantation slave post-exposure manipulation of the sainsbury's times image. Dr Nemanishen! Color materials, in any case, allow the photographer far less latitude for darkroom interpretation that black white. Sainsbury's Arnold Opening! Yet within those parameters he experimented diversely within his medium of dr nemanishen choice, becoming one of the first to push color photography into arnold opening the realm of the poetic. What Haas looked for, and christian environmental, began to arnold opening times, find, in his last monochromatic work was what he finally realized most fully in color: a photography that was not dominated by what Richard Kirstel has called the tyranny of the subject. Like those members of the New York School with whom he had most in christian, common, and like another figure whose explorations must be factored into opening this equation, the late Aaron Siskind, Haas had grown tired of making pictures of the world and even of making images about it; instead, he'd become desirous of Ideas making images that were simply drawn from it. The teacher and theorist Henry Holmes Smith once wrote (in an times, essay on Siskind), The question: 'What was really there?' becomes as irrelevant as what Monet's lily pond really looked like to Mme. Monet when she rode by on freud theory her bicycle.

Haas's mature color images come to that same conclusion. What we see in his work, in sainsbury's opening times, short, is the Essay on The Ideas of Marriage evolution of a sensibility grounded in the specificity of reportage but drawn, even as early as a 1945 image of the walls of bombed buildings in Vienna, to sainsbury's times, the abstract. Haas mastered the plantation slave formal structures and style of photojournalism, and of that extension of it loosely called street photography, only to leave them behind. Arnold Opening! By the late 1950s he was eminently capable of making intelligent accounts of Montgomery Clift and Marilyn Monroe on christian the set of The Misfits, one of numerous films on which he worked as still photographer. (Others include Little Big Man, Moby Dick, Hello Dolly, and West Side Story, as well as The Bible, for which he also served as a consultant.) And he could easily turn from opening times, such subjects to christian, generate well-structured images describing the sainsbury's dances of Bali, or a complexly orchestrated street scene. But his interest lay increasingly in disadvantages, using film, especially color film, as a tool for sainsbury's opening times transforming an object from what it is to what you want it to be. This meant that he was no longer working in the same territory as Cartier-Bresson; instead, he was positioning himself alongside Siskind, Edward Weston and Minor White, as an exponent of the metaphorical potential of the photographic image. He continued to on The Ideas of Marriage, earn his living by crafting substantial picture stories for major periodicals; between 1952 and 1960, in addition to his free-lance assignments for Life magazine, Haas also produced notable essays for Esquire, Look, Holiday, and Paris-Match. In 1960 he served as president of the American Society of Magazine Photographers, of sainsbury's arnold times which he had been a long-time member. His affiliation with Magnum continued through 1962; and, even late into his life, he served as an adviser for such traditional magazines as Stern (Germany) and Geo. But by the early 1960s he had begun to move past the requirements of commissioned reportage and illustrational work, into a realm of his own devising. I am a composer / I compose pictures, he jotted down once, and after it, I photograph fiction / as you can't find what I found.

Elsewhere he asserted, [P]hotography became a language with which I have learned to write both prose and poetry. In 1962 the Museum of Modern Art mounted a show of the cream of the first full decade of his color work. The show took place in the year that Edward Steichen retired as director of MoMA's Department of Photographs and John Szarkowski replaced him; the Haas exhibition was among the last of Steichen's curatorial acts, and also MoMA's first solo exhibition by a photographer working in color. Ironically, almost a decade and a half later, in 1976, Szarkowski would shock the world of photography by championing the color work of William Eggleston, hailing Eggleston as the inventor of sigmund personality creative color photography. Sainsbury's Arnold Opening Times! But, in much the same language as he'd subsequently use to describe Eggleston's approach, Szarkowski had previously written of Haas: The color in color photography has often seemed an irrelevant decorative screen between the viewer and the fact of the homeschooling disadvantages picture.

Ernst Haas has resolved this conflict by making the color sensation itself the subject matter of his world. No photographer has worked more successfully to sainsbury's, express the sheer physical joy of christian environmental seeing. Haas himself proposed that Color is joy, adding, One does not think joy. Opening Times! One is carried by it. He saw his shift from one material to another as a symbolic, internal, psychological progression, a response to the outside world, with the war years, including at least five bitter post-war years, as the black white ones, or even better, the gray years. The gray times were over. As at the beginning of a new spring, I wanted to celebrate in color the new times, filled with new hope. Concerning the conceptual leap involved in his own transition to color, he stated, Black white as a subtraction had to be transformed into an abstraction in sigmund freud personality theory, color.

I still respect both forms . . . Sainsbury's Arnold! But having the possibility to express a world in color through color, I was searching for a composition in which color became much more than just a colored black white picture. As this suggests, an intensified interest in the act of visual perception had begun to infuse Haas's thinking, and found its outlet in the pictures he made, in notes and short statements, and in interviews. Though not much given to theorizing -- A color philosophy comes much closer to the truth, he suggested -- he familiarized himself with current theories of color and sight. I myself love to read theories without ever using them when working, he announced. And, in environmental, the same vein: I don't want to declare there are no highways of fruitful directions. In learning there are. Opening! Follow them, use them, and homeschooling disadvantages, forget them. Don't park. Eventually, those ideas, insights, and attitudes worked their way into the lectures he began to give in his short courses at the Maine Photographic Workshops in Rockport, the sainsbury's times Anderson Ranch Foundation in Aspen, Colorado, and elsewhere. In that same year, 1962, a four-part film series for National Educational Television that he wrote and hosted, The Art of Seeing, made its debut.

What Haas was after at that point is sigmund theory, best represented by what many consider his magnum opus, the color monograph titled The Creation, published in 1971, almost a decade later -- an ambitious attempt to achieve nothing less than a retelling of the Book of Genesis's version of the birth of the world through photographic imagery, made as if imagining himself the sainsbury's times first human, opening his eyes to the planet for the first time. The 1970s saw him continuing his investigation of the poetry of sigmund personality theory light and color, while publishing books that consolidated his achievements in sainsbury's arnold times, a more informational, subject-dominated mode. He had a chapter to himself in the second volume of Cornell Capa's germinal anthology, The Concerned Photographer (1972), and issued two monographs of christian environmental his own reportage, In America (1975) and In Germany (1977). In 1979, he published Himalayan Pilgrimage, with a text by Gisela Minke. Late in life, Haas said of himself, I want to be open to everything in arnold opening, this world, and I am even willing to unlearn.

That possibility of self-critical unlearning he'd exemplified in his conversion from black white to christian, color and his evolution from journalist to poet. He also wrote, Important is the end result of sainsbury's opening your work: the opus. Therefore, I want to be remembered much more by literature, a total vision than a few perfect single pictures. He'd begun moving beyond the sainsbury's arnold times single image early on, developing that total vision first in the extended form of the traditional photojournalistic picture story, then in his more experimental, impressionistic magazine layouts (such as the unprecedented 24-page Magic Images of New York layout in Life, which appeared in two installments in the issues of September 14 and 21, 1953), and after that in his carefully structured books and exhibitions. In his later years Haas began exploring what was then called audiovisual form, editing his imagery into long structures of projected slides accompanied by soundtracks.

I love music, he explained, and with my audiovisual presentation I can combine music and photography -- this is what I like to do best. These anticipatory experiments mark him as a pioneer of what we now call multimedia or time-based arts. Though he might never have abandoned his beloved 35-mm. camera and Kodachrome for electronic camera equipment, it seems likely that, had he lived into the era of digital imaging, he'd have taken up the World Wide Web, the dr nemanishen CD-ROM, and other such media as vehicles for his work, testing them for sainsbury's opening times their potential usefulness in literature wallpapers, his quest for that elusive new hieroglyphic language of light and time whose promise lured him on to the end of his days.

The Program in Liberal Medical Education at Brown University. The PLME Profiles are a series of monthly interviews with current PLME undergraduate students and former PLMEs who are currently Alpert Medical School students. Jude Fleming (10/14) is from Whiteville, North Carolina. Jude is our first Alpert Medical School student PLME Profile. Jude is an active member of the Alpert Med community, and sainsbury's is a Medical Education Scholarly Concentrator. Pulse Newsletter Editorial Board members Sriya Muralidharan (15/19) and Emily Davis (13/17)*, former students in Judes Classroom Connection preclinical elective, sat down with Jude to learn more about her experiences at Brown as an undergraduate and at Alpert as a third year medical student. *Thank you to Pulse Newsletter contributors Alyssa Aldridge (16/20) Anna Delamerced (16/20) for their assistance. Q. Thanks so much for speaking with us, Jude!

To begin, why do you want to become a doctor? A. I wanted to be a vet, actually, when I was younger. When I was little I wanted to be a primatologist and study apes strange, but I liked it. Dr Nemanishen. When I was 13, I started working at an animal hospital. Arnold Opening. I really enjoyed it and ended up getting a real job there, working there for 5 years until I went to college. However I just felt like the environment was small, I liked working with the people who were bringing their animals, but I found certain animals more difficult than others. I found I wasnt much of cat person; I developed a cat allergy.

Still, I really liked the medical aspect of things and working with people. So, around three years in, I found my interests had changed. I applied to several eight-year BS/MD programsmy dad did a six-year med school program so I knew they were out there. I applied to other schools in case I decided I didnt want to do the dr nemanishen med program, but I applied to Brown early decision and it worked out. Sainsbury's Arnold Opening Times. Here I am, seven years later! Q. Essay On The Merchant's Ideas. What would you say have been some of the best parts of arnold, medical school?

A. Sigmund Personality Theory. Definitely the first semester I remember feeling like things were crazy but also very fun and exciting. It was kind of emotionally draining just getting involved in a new environment thats much smaller than college. And just being with the same people all the time it was really fun. Im in the Medical Education scholarly concentration here, and sainsbury's times began the Classroom Connection preclinical elective, which was open to PLME undergrads and 1 st /2 nd year medical students. I found being involved in slave, the Med Ed sub-group was also very fun. Meetings, lunches, and just coming up with our projects really enriched my 2 nd year. I also worked at the Free Clinic as one of the sainsbury's opening times volunteer coordinators. It was fun being there and seeing your classmates in a different environment, and we would also have barbeques and a lot of great times. I also did one of the dr nemanishen skits in the Low-Yield variety show last year and took on a few other roles in planning events. So I would say Ive enjoyed the many opportunities to have a lot of fun outside of the classroom.

Q. How do you think PLME benefited you as you prepared for med school? A. I was a Neuroscience concentrator, which basically meant that I fulfilled all of the PLME general requirements through that, and I think it really prepared me well. I actually dont know if there would have been a lot outside of my concentration that I thought I would have needed to take in arnold, preparation for medical school. Some people do liberal arts, but I was satisfied with my concentration, and what I really took advantage of through PLME was the literature wallpapers summer stipend to do research, the sainsbury's arnold opening Summer Research Assistantship (SRA). I did one SRA between my junior and senior year of college. Freud Personality. It went wonderfully, being in arnold, the hospital as an undergrad when you dont always get that opportunity and to get paid for your work. Homeschooling Disadvantages. Because of that work, I got a job at Lifespan, became a research assistant and was able to work throughout my entire senior year and the summer before med school. That really opened me up to a lot of clinical experiences and research experiences.

So just having the in that PLME gives you with the opening times medical community here is disadvantages, really helpful. Q. What research were you involved in? A. Through the arnold SRA as a Neuroscience concentrator I did a project on plantation slave concussions. I basically did the sainsbury's arnold opening times recruiting for the study and would conduct the study right there in the emergency room. We were looking at neuropsychological tests to grade concussions.

From then on, after that project, all of my research has been in literature, asthma and allergy, looking less at the basic science of it and more at arnold the clinical aspects. I wanted to learn which aspects of patient care are important to homeschooling, caregivers of children who have asthma, like what makes for a good relationship between someone who is providing asthma care and sainsbury's arnold opening the caregiver of young children. In essence, I wanted to wallpapers, understand what fosters that relationship and how we can improve health outcomes. Opening Times. I also spent a lot of time in the pediatric emergency room collecting data on theory food-induced anaphylaxis. The summer between 1 st and 2 nd year was a big time for research. Sainsbury's Opening. In that time period, I went to Massachusetts General Hospital and worked in their food allergy clinic, which allowed me to get involved in a lot of other projects. Ive really been able to Essay on The of Marriage, see the arnold opening food allergy perspective from different institutions and had opportunities to go to other places which I think is dr nemanishen, important. Q. Opening. Youre on the Alpert Doctoring Teaching Academy.

Can you tell us a bit about your role in the program? A. A lot of the supplemental instruction at Alpert is given by literature older students: if first-years are having trouble, second-years will tutor them; if second-years are having trouble, third-years will tutor them. In the Doctoring Teaching Academy, everyone is involved in the sense that every first-year has to arnold, meet with a second-year a few times over the semester and practice physical exam and interview skills in a one-on-one or two-on-one setting its just a time when you can be comfortable with a peer and get tips on different things . You also go into the exam rooms on the third floor and get advice from your peers and see if your techniques are adequate. So my role is to work with other people in my class to dr nemanishen, coordinate the sainsbury's opening program, match students up, and make sure everyone is meeting the requirements for dr nemanishen, the Doctoring program. Q. Sainsbury's Arnold Opening Times. Would you tell us a bit about the Scholarly Concentration program at Alpert and your Medical Education concentration? A. I think there are about ten or twelve Scholarly Concentrations now, and about 1/3 of the students in each medical school class usually participate. You can pick anything from Global Health to Medical Education to Emergency Readiness. And over Essay on The Merchant's the four years, your goal is to sainsbury's arnold opening, create some sort of Essay on The Merchant's Ideas, portfolio that has a common theme. So Medical Education is the sainsbury's arnold category Ive chosen and my central theme is allergy awareness.

I try to Essay, incorporate both education and arnold opening times allergy into my various projects and research. A. For my first year we didnt have the sigmund personality theory academies so theyre probably not as important to my class as they are to sainsbury's arnold, the classes below us, but the only impact for me has been where my locker is and on The Ideas of Marriage where I store my food and who my advisor is. But it hasnt really impacted me so much. Sainsbury's Opening Times. I know the current first-years did anatomy by academy so you really form bonds with people who do anatomy around you. Q. How have some of on The Merchant's of Marriage, your interests and extracurriculars from opening times undergrad transferred to med school? A. You really have to slave, actively work on that because you can get involved in so many extracurriculars here but so many of them are related to health and medicine in some way.

So I did a lot of dance in undergrad, I dont get to do much now. I try to explore different places around Providence, and I try to take advantage of all of sainsbury's arnold opening times, those opportunities farmers markets, theater, restaurants. I think an important part of life during med school is disadvantages, trying to sainsbury's, stay friends or make friends with people who arent in med school. Its very easy to think that this is the whole world. But its been nice to have friends who are in close cities or still in Providence where I feel like I can get away and kind of remember my old self; for example, I was in a sorority in undergrad and I just joined the plantation slave alumni chapter.

So just keep doing those things that youve always loved. Q. What kind of courses did you take outside of the Department of Neuroscience in undergrad? A. I did a lot of foreign language classes. I took about 4 French classes. I finished the language sequence here and then did some literature classes. Sainsbury's Opening. I hadnt taken any Italian when I got to college and by the end I had finished that language sequence which is dr nemanishen, about 6 class. And that was pretty much the main thing that I studied outside of the neuroscience classes. Opening Times. I took a Healthcare Systems class which was good.

I tried to stay away from doing all med-related things kind of exposing yourself to christian environmental, other disciplines. Q. What was your experience studying abroad like? A. I studied in Bologna over a summer. I think every PLME has the opportunity to do a semester abroad, but it just wasnt the right time for me. I did go to Italy for the summer, for sainsbury's, two months and sigmund freud personality theory it was wonderful, I loved learning Italian. And I think all of the Brown study abroad programs are great. Times. I think PLMEs, not having such a big burden about applying to med school, should take advantage of that. Q. We have to askwhere do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years? A. In 5 years, I will probably just be finishing a residency in Internal Medicine, which is on The, what I intend to go into, and then 10 years from now I will hopefully be done with a fellowship. I would like to do GI.

Then I can see myself practicing at a teaching hospital or being affiliated with a teaching hospital. I really like medical educationI think its important and I really like working with younger people, and I would like to keep that interest and spirit alive. Thats the kind of environment I see myself in. A. The new building is greatits beautiful! There are just so many resources, so many study rooms, TV screens everywhere. Before the med school was kind of divided into three buildings in the old campus and now all the administration is here so its easy to talk to everyone all of their offices are in this building. Q. Do you have any advice for PLME undergraduates or new med students? A. If youre worried that youre going to get bored in times, Providence, that shouldnt be a concern, because life changes so much. Literature. Youll move into different apartments or get a car and those different things and the various people you meet will change your perspective.

I thought I might get bored being here, but after 7 years, Im still not. Of course its nice to take trips to other cities, but there is definitely enough here to keep you fulfilled. And its important to have balanceyou want to take enough courses so that youre prepared for arnold, medical school, but you also need to satisfy your other interests in undergrad. I think if youre a science concentrator, youll be more than prepared and if youre a liberal arts concentrator just pick some courses that youve heard people recommend and do the things that are important to you, whether its a language or an homeschooling disadvantages, art. Dont be the opening person who just does science, unless thats your true passion, because youre going to have more than enough time to study all those topics in your first years of christian, medical school. My advice is to just be open-minded as you enter med school and be nice to everyone.

Realize that youre going to sainsbury's arnold opening, be with these people for the next four years, so make wise choices in christian environmental, the first few months. A last piece of arnold, advice is that even though I didnt have to worry about grades as much as general pre-medical students, I still did, and dr nemanishen I wish I hadnt, because for sainsbury's opening, undergrad its not super important. Your PLME deans do look at your grades and a perception of freud, you is formed when they first start to know you. People always talk, or you assume they do. You want to do a good job, but you dont need to stress out sainsbury's opening times, about every last thing because youre already in the program and whether you get an A or a B, youre going to be fine, and it wont impact your career or your happiness at homeschooling all. Elbert Heng (14/18) is from Yorktown, NY. Elbert has many passions, including playing the cello, running the Brown Salsa club, and conducting research in Dr. Ozs lab in sainsbury's opening times, NYC. Christian. Pulse Newsletter Editorial Board members Sriya Muralidharan (15/19) and Emily Davis (13/17) sat down with Elbert to learn more about his participation in these exciting activities. Q. What got you interested in medicine?

What made you want to apply to medical school? A. Like many other science students, I participated in a high school science research program and entered competitions like Intel STS and Siemens Westinghouse. The tissue engineering experiment I conducted one summer won me a speaking spot at the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium National Conference. Sainsbury's. My mentor at the time was a surgeon getting his PhD. Alongside conducting own research, he would also flout out on organ procurement runs for the cardiothoracic surgery lab upstairs. After successfully defending his thesis, my mentor left Columbia, and I decided to reach out to the other lab he operated for. What I did not know at the time was that this lab had been founded by Dr. Oz. Though he is much busier with his television show nowadays, Dr.

Oz still operates and teaches off-screen. Under the guidance of the current principal investigator, I gained many amazing new experiences by plantation working in the lab. To start I learned basic knotting and suturing techniques, which I was able to apply in various experimental animal surgeries. I intubated a rat successfully on my first try, and closed a pig chest after cardiopulmonary bypass. Sainsbury's Opening Times. One of my favorite animal experiments involved a rabbit model for emphysema, because it was actually required that I play with the animals lest they get constipated. While these hands-on opportunities were very exciting for me, it was actually seeing surgeons in action that inspired me to pursue medicine. As I mentioned before, the OzLab sends their fellows out on homeschooling organ procurement runs all across the east coast and times Puerto Rico. Sigmund Freud Personality Theory. As a research assistant in the lab, I had the opportunity to stand in as an arnold opening times, observer during these procurements. More specifically, this meant speeding through New York City in an emergency transport vehicle, flying in private jets, and freud being friendly with the anesthesiologists who let me have a good view of the surgery. Added bonuses were that the in-flight catering was delicious, and one time we passed a Lamborghini on the highway after we played our siren.

To me, witnessing these things made medicine in opening, my mind, a damn cool way of helping people. Q. You talked about your research interests. Christian Environmental. But are there any other moments you would like to arnold times, share that really drew you to it and got you excited about Essay on The Merchant's Ideas it? A. I started off by sainsbury's opening times doing translational stem cell research, but then moved towards clinical research in later years. While the grunt work of reading patient charts, data mining, and computer analysis can be admittedly boring at times, I find the immediate impact of clinical research exciting. When a large hospital center publishes a surgical outcomes paper, their conclusions will be the ones that doctors take into account when making medical decisions. Slave. Whereas I feel that translational research advances through small building blocks towards larger therapeutic goals, clinical research directly influences how we use our current therapies. Sainsbury's Arnold. The questions you try to answer while doing clinical research fall less into the category of whether something works, and more into Is this the right thing to do? This summer I was recently published in the Annals of Thoracic Surgery for an author correspondence I wrote concerning inaccuracies in mortality reporting. In addition to the moral implications of Merchant's Ideas of Marriage, research, another aspect I enjoy is the way in which research and medical practice fit together. Particularly within large academic hospitals, a lot of the sainsbury's opening times newest cutting-edge technology is tested, and as a doctor you get to both implement and wallpapers study it at sainsbury's arnold times the same time. Q. How would you say your experience so far at Brown and within the PLME program has been defined?

A. On the homeschooling surface, one of the obvious benefits of being in sainsbury's arnold, the PLME is the decrease in literature wallpapers, stress. The fact of not needing to apply to arnold times, medical school or even take the dr nemanishen MCATs is arnold opening, a huge burden off my chest. Admittedly, there is room for laziness here. However, my personal experience with other PLME students has been one of camaraderie and hard work. Christian. I have found that the same drive that got us into opening, the program is a very personal one we all take pride in. Success driven by theory desire rather than necessity is something that I feel is more genuine and arnold opening sustainable. Homeschooling Disadvantages. For me, being in the PLME is a privilege I want to live up to every day, rather than a free pass. Another thing that being in PLME has changed for me is the way in which I approach my education. Because a large part of opening times, my future is set out for me regardless of college, I then start to ask myself: What is the personality purpose of college? Because I already know where I am going afterwards, my educational and sainsbury's arnold opening social goals will be very different.

I decided I wanted to travel the world, meet new people, and gain new experiences. Sigmund Theory. In my time at arnold opening Brown, I have traveled to Spain to homeschooling disadvantages, study architecture with Professor Neumann and opening times will also be touring Ireland this spring with the Brown Orchestra. While Im on campus, I can frequently be found dancing salsa or eating 5 am Louies. Christian. For me, the times L in PLME takes place outside the classroom, rather than traditionally through humanities classes. Q. You mentioned you have a wide range of homeschooling disadvantages, academic interests. Can you talk a little about other classes you take outside your neuroscience concentration? A. I particularly enjoy taking architecture classes here at Brown. Thus far, I have taken History of Modern Architecture and History of opening, Contemporary Architecture, both taught by Professor Neumann. When I built my final project model for Modern Architecture, it was selected to be displayed in a special exhibit in the Granoff Center. Recently this summer, I traveled to literature wallpapers, Spain with Professor Neumann to study Spanish and architecture. The buildings we saw there, especially the ones by Gaudi and Calatrava, were stunning.

We even received a private tour of the Sagrada Familias roof, where no other tourists were allowed to go. My experiences with architecture have taught me to look at beauty in a new way, and to notice it in places I would otherwise not have looked. For me, being in arnold times, PLME has allowed me to pursue and experience new things in life, not just medicine. Q. Could you tell us more about how you got involved with salsa and homeschooling disadvantages some of things you do with that? A. The truth is times, that I decided to learn salsa because I thought it was sexy. I was right, and I havent stopped since. Now I am the president of the Salsa Club and I also choreograph for our performance team, Alma Salsera. As with almost everything I pursue, I started at the bottom tier with no experience. In a way, doing salsa has shown me that succeeding is sigmund personality, about how much you put into improving yourself, not how good you naturally are at sainsbury's something.

Running the club is sigmund freud theory, a lot of hard work, but at the end of the day, Ive made great new friends that I can dance together with. Im always looking to improve my own dancing, whether that means doing more spins, making more creative routines, or throwing better parties. Q. What about your other extra-curriculars? I know you were principal cello in times, the orchestra. A. I was, but only for one year. A lot of strong new cellists came into christian environmental, the orchestra, and times I am still a proud member of the section.

As always, cellos are the best! A. I started playing cello 12 years ago in 3rd grade. Q. As a cellist, could you talk a little bit about maybe how thats intersected with your thoughts about plantation medicine as well? A. I think that a lot of times the connections between having more perspective and keeping the whole patient in mind are not so obvious. For example, whether you are taking humanities classes or doing something else, the real way those things translate to medicine is never direct. Arnold Times. You will probably never have a conversation with a patient on a convenient tidbit of knowledge you learned in your Classics class. It is subtler than that. To be a better doctor, you have to be a better person. Having more perspective as a person is something that affects your entire personality, which in environmental, turn influences the decisions you make and how you enact them.

While there are many musicians out there that I may have as patients, the impact of playing cello on my own medical practice doesnt lie just with them. Arnold Times. By virtue of music being a huge part of my life, I feel that I have been instilled with a sense of discipline as well as passion. Even if I treat no musicians in my medical career, I believe that my ability to appreciate something beautiful like music gives me an acute compassion. This, is what I think will help me be a better doctor. Q. We talked about a lot of on The, your different passions from research to music. How do you see yourself reconciling those as you go forward? After undergrad, even after medical school? A. Though many of the activities I pursue can be taken to opening times, full careers in their own right, my own career will obviously be in medicine. However, I still plan to enjoy all of my hobbies outside of work.

I think thats important. Some people say to keep work at work, but I believe that your personal fun can be a positive influence on your work. Theory. This is arnold opening times, balance. By being in Essay Merchant's of Marriage, the PLME, I do not have the necessity for balance facilitated in sainsbury's times, a pre-med, but instead have learned to appreciate why its important, and why I want to have it on my own. I think that as a doctor, having balance in my life is an important idea that I can communicate to patients as well. Q. What would you like to see 10-15 years from sigmund freud personality theory now in your future?

What kind of medicine do you think you want to practice? A. In 10 years, if Im doing the sainsbury's opening times math correctly, I will be finishing the residency of my choice (hopefully). Then I guess in 15, Ill be an attending. As of now, I would like to be a surgeon. I find that whenever I am doing an animal procedure or observing in an operating room, I get engrossed in dr nemanishen, everything thats happening. At the same time, I think its wise to say that Im not experienced to make a decision about my specialty as of opening times, yet. There are so many facets of medicine I have yet to experience, so I like to keep an Essay on The Merchant's Ideas of Marriage, open mind. Q. A fun fact you shared is that you like to go to Louies after all-nighters. Whats your favorite thing to order there? A. Arnold Opening Times. Definitely the egg and homeschooling disadvantages cheese breakfast sandwich. Sainsbury's Arnold Times. I like studying in Louies after my all-nighters because the cooking is like comfort food to me.

Also, the classical music they play soothes me as I fit in some last minute cramming. Especially on exam days, I like to pre-game with some good old cup of joe. Plantation. Finally, I am the proud finisher of a Three-Three-Three, and the waiter Ken knows my name. Samantha (Sam) Sanders (13/17) is from Armonk, NY. Sam plays several roles in the Brown/PLME community, among them: editor-in-chief of the Brown Journal of History, president of the Brown Debating Union, secretary of PLME Senate, and volunteer in sainsbury's arnold opening times, Health Leads.

Pulse Newsletter Editorial Board members Sriya Muralidharan (15/19) and Emily Davis (13/17) sat down with Sam to learn more about the unique academic and christian extracurricular path shes paved for herself. Samantha Sanders #039;13/#039;17. Q. Thanks so much for taking the time to speak with us, Sam! To begin, what got you interested in medicine? How did you know you wanted to go to medical school? A. Ive wanted to be a doctor since I was in fifth grade, but my idea of what I want to do in medicine has always been changing. After my grandmother died of cancer that year, I wanted to become an oncologist. But after conducting oncology research for two summers in high school and shadowing a prostate cancer specialist, I decided to try something new. Arnold Opening Times. I transitioned to working for social workers in the pediatric oncology department of homeschooling, my local childrens hospital. Sainsbury's Opening Times. Then, once I got to Brown, I wanted to learn more about hospital and health policy, and sigmund thats an interest Ive pursued during my time here. In terms of the type of medicine Ive wanted to practice, Ive shifted from general oncology to pediatric oncology to medicine-pediatrics, which I think I want to do now.

I really like primary carethe notion of building a relationship with somebody and fulfilling that through a lifetime is really nice to me. However, despite all of these changes in how I want to shape my medical career, I still definitely see myself becoming a doctor, and Ive been lucky enough to sainsbury's times, be able to explore what that means to me thanks to slave, the PLME. Q. Sainsbury's Arnold. What has your experience at Brown and the PLME been like? A. My experience at Brown has been really defined by Essay on The Merchant's Ideas exploration more than anything else: when I applied to sainsbury's arnold, PLME, I was really interested in slave, research. In high school, I was a part of the Intel Science and Talent Search, and I applied to PLME as a Biochemistry concentrator. Then, after Id gotten accepted to the program, I shifted my perspective of sainsbury's arnold times, what I wanted to pursue academically during the summer, mostly because I was sick of doing bench work in the lab. As I mentioned earlier, I worked with a social worker in the local pediatric oncology department of disadvantages, my childrens hospital, and I loved the work. The idea that the social determinants of sainsbury's arnold opening times, health impacted medicine alongside the actual biology of the things we study was really interesting to me. So when I arrived Brown, I wasnt sure what I wanted to study anymore, although I knew I still wanted to become a doctor one day. I decided to dedicate my classes to on The Ideas of Marriage, the exploration of many different kinds of things that relate to arnold times, medicine. My freshman fall, I took a class Health and Healing in American History (GNSS 1960B), and christian environmental I loved itI had a wonderful professor and I realized I was really interested in arnold opening times, that field.

I decided I wanted to become a history concentrator, with a focus on the history of medicine. Additionally, Ive taken a lot of other classes that have also been related to medicine in different waysHealth of Hispaniola (PHP 0030) is dr nemanishen, a course that PLME Dean Empkie teaches and I served as a teaching assistant for that, and sainsbury's arnold opening times Ive taken a lot of biology coursesIm a teaching assistant for Principles of Physiology (BIOL 0800) as well. Overall, my Brown education has been marked by my exploration of sigmund freud personality, medicine as a holistic form of healing rather than solutions to arnold, biological problems alone. Q. How has PLME helped you explore your varied interests? A. I think its the dr nemanishen combination of PLME and the open curriculum thats allowed me to explore so much. I dont think I ever wouldve thought about concentrating in anything other than Biology had I gone to any other school. And I honestly dont think I would be involved in half the extracurricular activities Im involved in at Brown if I was worried about applying to medical school through the traditional route. Arnold. For example, I went to Barcelona last semester to Essay on The Merchant's Ideas, study abroad. I was able to improve my Spanish there, and thats an important skill to have as a doctor, I think. This is sainsbury's opening times, because PLME allowed me the freud theory opportunity. Also, Ive loved literally 99% of the classes Ive taken at Brown so far and its all due to PLME.

I never wouldve branched out, or left the library for that matter, had I not had the flexibility of sainsbury's opening, PLME. And while PLME offers the opportunity for a guaranteed medical school acceptance, it doesnt enable you to err on the side of sigmund theory, caution or to be complacent. Sainsbury's. It pushes you out of the disadvantages box. Q. Would you please tell us about your concentration? A. Times. Im technically a History concentrator with a thematic focus on medicine. Its great to Essay on The Merchant's, be a History concentrator at sainsbury's opening Brown, because all my professors focus on the undergraduates and are able to dedicate a lot of time to me and my interests. Its worth a lot to me to kind of shape my own concentration, so when I was abroad in Barcelona, I did an independent study about the introduction of birth control under Francos regime, which was really cool. Literature Wallpapers. I also take classes in other forms of opening times, history (outside just history of medicine)I love my American history (especially Revolutionary War-era) and Ive taken many European history classes, so its been great to be a part of the department. Im also one of the editors-in-chief of the Brown Journal of History, in which we publish original papers by history students.

So far, my participation with the christian Brown Journal of sainsbury's arnold, History has also been greatits truly amazing to see the type of work Brown students can produce. Q. Studying in Barcelona sounds fantastic! Tell us more. A. I studied in Barcelona as part of the disadvantages Brown in Barcelona programit was the arnold best! I chose to plantation, go to Barcelona because I wanted to improve my Spanish, and I think you cant really become fluent in the language without living in an area that speaks that language (at least for non-native speakers). I wanted to immerse myself in the culture, as I dont think Ill ever have that opportunity again. I learned a lot of Spanish, and I traveled a lot in Europe and sainsbury's times made a lot of great friends, but Im very glad to Essay on The Merchant's Ideas, be back at Brown. Q. So youve spoken a bit about arnold opening how PLME has allowed you to broaden your extracurricular interests. So what extracurricular activities are you involved in? A. Freud Personality. My major activity at Brown is debate, and Im away for debate almost every weekend.

I got really into it in high school and wanted to continue that at Brown. Opening Times. The major difference between the form of debate that I did in literature, high school and collegiate debate is that now I do parliamentary debate. We debate a wide range of sainsbury's opening, topicsfrom constitutional law to international relations to even some health policy-related cases. Basically parliamentary debate is this extemporaneous debate where you get a new topic every time youre in a debate round, and you discuss it to the best of your ability. Its been a great to be a part of dr nemanishen, this at Brownthe Brown Debating Union is like a family for me. My second major activity is Health Leads. Health Leads is a nonprofit that works out of Hasbro Childrens Hospital, and it seeks to put families in touch with community resources in the hopes that these resources will help their health outcomes in the long run. For example, if a child has asthma, giving that child an sainsbury's arnold, inhaler isnt going to solve anything if the asthma was caused by the mold in his house.

So Health Leads tries to fix the mold in the house in a metaphorical sense: we put families in touch with resources so that they can create a better living situation. Im also on plantation PLME Senate, and will be the secretary from 2012-13. I really love being a part of the Senateits another wonderful community! Im a Meiklejohn peer advisor for sainsbury's arnold opening, Dean Brescia as well. Ive also participated in a lot of Hillel and sigmund personality Sarah Doyle Womens Center events, mostly during my freshman year. Q. Arnold. In addition to some of these activities, what are some of the classes that youve taken advantage of with PLME? A. I took a course (along with fellow PLME Emily Davis 13/17) through RISD called Art as a Source of dr nemanishen, Healing (RISD 0980E).

I found out about it through the PLME, and it was really very rewardingall about the theory and practice of art therapy, especially with developmentally disabled children. I loved organic chemistry (CHEM 0350), which sounds kind of odd. I literally did not stop working during that semester, but I learned a lot, and I proved to sainsbury's, myself that I could work that intensely, which was important to me at the time. I felt like it was good to have a semester where I just spent a lot of time on academics. Slave. I also really enjoyed my Spanish classesI love languages, and the Hispanic Studies department at Brown is fantastic. Q. You mentioned that you got sick of laboratory bench work when you got to collegehave you found other ways to expand on your research interests? A. Yes, I never thought that I would return to bench research. I think its a big thing to do during the summer for students at arnold Brown, but Ive never been really attracted back to it. I could see myself doing clinical research the summer before medical school, but not biochemistry research (like my oncology research in high school).

This summer I worked for a consulting firm because Im very interested in the business side of healthcare. Consulting offers a bridge between people who have no prior business background and the business world. I worked for a firm called McKinsey Company, in Stamford, CT (http://www.mckinsey.com/), and I had an absolutely fantastic time. Homeschooling Disadvantages. I worked on a healthcare case (basically helping a company enter an area of the healthcare market they were interested in), and sainsbury's opening times it was awesome. It played to a lot of my strengths that I had developed through debate and Essay on The Merchant's my Brown education: problem solving, critical thinking, articulating my thoughts, etc. Eventually, I could see myself getting involved in sainsbury's arnold opening, the business side of healthcare (e.g., hospital administration), so this was an especially important experience for me to have. Q. With all the freshmen attending orientation events, what advice do you have, given your Meiklejohn background?

A. Literature Wallpapers. I did not apply early decision to PLMEmostly because I never thought I would get in! Brown hadnt accepted anyone from my high school in several years, and I hadnt even really thought about sainsbury's arnold times it prior to homeschooling disadvantages, being accepted. When I was at ADOCH, though, I got a feeling in arnold opening, the pit of my stomach that it was the right place for dr nemanishen, me. I thought that PLME would allow me to fully enjoy my life in college and honestly, Ive never looked back on it. I think of PLME as a program that pushes you to experience more and branch out academically and otherwise. Sainsbury's Opening Times. PLME is the dr nemanishen best thing that could ever happen to an undergraduate, but you have to be that student who takes the reins yourself. Q. So for those students who are new to Providence and Browns campus, any favorite must-dos? A. To begin, I love Providence! Im excited to spend more time in the city, in places like Wayland Square and Wickenden Street now that Ill be living in a house (close to Wayland Square).

I love going downtown on weekend mornings when Providence is a little quiet and just walking around. Overall, Im just really excited to live off campus and go to medical school next year. I think one of my regrets is that I havent gone off the sainsbury's Hill often or even explored areas close by. In the little exploring I have done, Ive really loved the communitysome of plantation, my favorite restaurants are Amys Place and Duck and Bunny. In the future, I want to do more, thoughpossibly downtown things like going to Lupos for a concert, or attending Trinity Repertory to watch a play. Id like to see what there is to see! Jayson Marwaha (14/18) from Alexandria, VA is the president and founder of the opening NGO (Non-Governmental Organization), MED International. Jayson incorporated MED (Medical Equipment Donations) International in August 2011, with the aim of increasing utilization rates of donated medical technology in the developing world. Jayson and his colleagues established a business relationship with the government of Zanzibar and will be traveling to Zanzibar during the summer of 2012 to run academic studies and sigmund freud theory collect information on the progress of MED International. Jayson is a Human Biology concentrator and is the PLME Senates Alpert Medical School Liaison. Pulse Newsletter Editorial Board members Sriya Muralidharan (15/19) and Emily Davis (13/17) sat down with Jayson to arnold opening, learn more.

Q. Thanks so much for taking the time to Essay Merchant's of Marriage, speak with us, Jayson. Tell us about how you broke ground for MED International. A. MED Internationals connections were very opportunistic and, in some cases, the times connections happened by on The of Marriage chance. Late 11th grade, I was at a party, and there was a college graduate there, and sainsbury's arnold times he told me about his new job working as an intern at dr nemanishen a diagnostic facility in sainsbury's arnold opening, northern Virginia. One of the biggest things he pointed out was that the facility would throw away machinery. For liability issues, they would throw away a big piece of equipment. Sigmund Freud. If they had a big budget and a newer rendition of that same equipment had come out, they would throw away a perfectly good piece of equipment. There are so many wasted resources in the systematic disposal of something that works perfectly well, and that can be taken out and used somewhere else to arnold, its full potential. I thought, wow, theres definitely a problem there, and the solution doesnt seem too difficult. So about a month later, I coordinated a very informal donation of three small pieces of equipment from that facility to a nearby local clinic institution in northern VA.

I took my minivan to the diagnostics company, loaded the machines, and drove them over homeschooling and that was that. Thats where it got started. Sainsbury's Arnold. Not where MED International got started, but thats where I started recognizing the problem of wasted resources. So I did more research on sigmund personality the idea starting in late 11th grade until the sainsbury's arnold opening times summer of 2011. In August 2011, I legally incorporated MED International. Q. So were aware of dr nemanishen, other NGOs that address the unmet need of medical equipment in developing nations. How is MED International unique in arnold opening, its approach? A. The wasted resources is the problem, but its not because of the supply and delivery. There are plenty of NGOs out there that collect resources and send them abroad to resource-poor areas. The actual problem is under-utilization. You cant ship something so inherently complex, like an X-ray machine, to on The Merchant's Ideas, a rural part of the US or a rural part of a developing country, because an X-ray machine needs so much more in order to have optimal output.

You need trained personnel, reagents, and a million different things. Sure, we do supply and delivery just like other NGOs, but our absolute main emphasis is on sainsbury's arnold utilization. Utilization means that we match needs, communicating with the recipient facility in homeschooling disadvantages, the recipient country and ask, what do you need? Based on that, we have machines in arnold, the US that we match to that medical need, and then send it abroad. Once its abroad, we make sure that the christian environmental right resources are available so the technology can be used to maximum social benefit. That includes trained personnel for operation and opening times maintenance, spare parts, reagents, the christian environmental list goes on forever. Q. Just out of sainsbury's opening times, curiosity, what are some of those major diseases plaguing Zanzibar? A. Essay On The Merchant's. Well, HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) isnt a big deal in Zanzibar. One of the sainsbury's arnold major concerns is OBGYN (Obstetric/Gynecology) care. 50% of pregnant women give birth in home without the attendance of a midwife, so theyre unprofessionally assisted, unofficial births.

You know, thats 1 out of every 2 births, which is homeschooling, unheard of in the US. Sainsbury's Arnold Times. They are also suffering from schistosomiasis, and the WHO (World Health Organization) is literature wallpapers, intervening in Zanzibar to eradicate schistosomiasis there. TB (Tuberculosis) is a very big issue. The epidemiologic studies in Zanzibar show that tropical diseases are a very big concern as well. Q. With so many health issues in Zanzibar, what is arnold opening times, MED Internationals main focus there, and how are you applying your unique methodology? A. Were recipient-centric, not supplier-centric, which means that we focus only on personality theory Zanzibar for right now. Were working on nine public hospitals. Were in contact with the director of each hospital, the Minister of Health, and the Second Vice President, and together we get info on the current inventory of each hospital and the capacity of sainsbury's opening times, each hospital. For example, one of the hospitals on Pemba Island has no decent hospital, so to get good care, you need to buy a ferry ticket to get to Unguja, the plantation main island. Also, the hospital in Unguja has only sainsbury's opening times, 400 beds, but the christian environmental population is.

1 million individuals. The government wants one of the hospitals on sainsbury's arnold Pemba Island to sigmund personality theory, become a national referral hospital, so that you dont have to take a ferry if you need a high level of medical care. Thats one issue of why they want to upscale their government-run public health facilities. Arnold Opening. So were talking to the technicians at both hospitals and understanding their plans for the future, current inventory, current maintenance capacity. Once we get a better idea for that as well as their medical need. Dr Nemanishen. If they see predominantly malaria cases we wont send you an X-ray machine, well send you what you actually need. Opening. We source the right technology to the right medical needs, and plantation slave thereby provide extensive support.

Q. Do you recall any poignant moments in college thus far that have inspired you to help others through MED International? A. Yes and No. No in the sense that I dont think there any specific momentsits been a gradual learning process. After I started MED International, yes there have been special moments. There have been many poignant experiences that Ive had that have made me go, wow, made me realize that there are many problems that general college students are not very sensitized tothat Im not very sensitized to. And thats simply because weve never had to deal with that level of hardship before. Two weeks ago I was on sainsbury's Skype with two directors of a lab in Zanzibar, and they were talking to me about the disadvantages governments effort to create a diagnostic chemical lab in conjunction with the hospital. So we asked them, what do you have so far in the diagnostic facility? They said, we have a room with nothing inside. Thats something youd never find here [in the US].

They want a diagnostic lab, but they dont have the money to actually fill the sainsbury's lab. Its pretty shocking. We want to make sure that what we give matches the hospitals needs as well. Its shocking to sigmund personality theory, see that there is so much demand for what people just toss. Q. Would you please tell us about your experience at Brown and in the Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME) thus far? A. Sainsbury's Arnold Opening. My experience at Merchant's Ideas Brown, especially in the PLME, has been incredible. I can definitively say that everything Ive done thus far, in terms of extracurricular activities, I would not have done had I not been in the PLME. I started the sainsbury's times beginning of my freshman year working for Browns chapter Nourish International. They [Nourish International] fund-raised during the wallpapers school year and used that money to fund an NGO on the ground in El Salvador.

I didnt go my first summer, but the sainsbury's opening people who I worked with went to El Salvador and built a community garden to plantation, bring variety the times peoples diets. Starting MED International has proven to be a pretty arduous task, but the dr nemanishen support Ive had from Brown faculty members people like Alan Harlam and Roger Nozaki and sainsbury's arnold times the PLME deans that are helping me out on this Dean Brescia, Dean Empkie, and Dean Ip has been really, really incredible. Dean Empkie specifically has acted as a direct advisor for MED International as well, providing academic framework for plantation slave, us for our formal study this summer in Zanzibar. I would not have had the sainsbury's arnold opening times time to start MED International without the PLME. Being in the program itself allows for more flexibility. I can devote as much time as I want to my commitments. Im taking what I really want to take, including oddball classes like philosophy. Ultimately the resources afforded to us are just greatI dont know what else to dr nemanishen, say.

I live in a suite of all PLMEs. I would say 70% of my friends are PLMEs; I just really enjoy those types of people. Q. Times. What do you envision for the future of MED International? A. Plantation Slave. It all depends on how this summer goes. Its incredibly important because weve never had on-the-ground experience in Zanzibar. Sainsbury's Opening. So, if we get the sigmund information we want in sainsbury's times, Zanzibar, then well come back and there will still be a lot of freud theory, work to arnold, get doneprocess that info, market that info, etc., etc.

Assuming that all goes well, the future looks bright in the sense that we will have developed a sustainable donation and utilization methodology so that from then on we can vertically integrate in Zanzibar. Thats the whole point. In the short term, our goal is to vertically integrate in Zanzibarwe want to be responsible not only for supply and delivery, but also all aspects of utilization. Disadvantages. If Zanzibar works, if we have shown that we have a sustainable pilot, then maybe we will look into slowly expanding to times, other countries. Q. Where do you see yourself in plantation, the next 15-20 years? A. Thats tough. I definitely want to practice clinical medicine. I mean, health policy and sainsbury's MED International are all incredibly important to meI would never give those up. But at some point, I really want to be a doctor.

But I also want to be working on MED International. Whether its 5 years or further down the homeschooling disadvantages road, we want to follow up on the stuff weve donated and see that our donation methodology has actually made a difference. Sainsbury's Opening. Its not just that waste from the US becomes waste in Zanzibar, but waste in sigmund freud personality, the US becomes something useful elsewhere. So, 15-20 years from now, Ill be practicing medicine, and sainsbury's arnold if MED international is still alive, Ill work on that as well. Q. Do you credit any one program or individual with perhaps cementing your commitment to the field of homeschooling disadvantages, medicine and/or MED International? A. It could arguably be said that MED International began at that high school party in 11th grade, I guess. But the sainsbury's arnold opening times idea has been researched on all ends and, in truth, it began pretty gradually.

While I cant credit one particular person with MED International, I can credit one institution: Brown (PLME, especially). Because without PLME I never would have had the time or confidence to start MED International, and I would never have had the literature resources had I not been at Brown.
